예수 그리스도께서  십자가에 못박혀 죽으심은 곧 죄인된 우리  모두의 죽음이다. 그가 죄인 된 우리 모두를 위하여 대신 죽으셨기 때문이다 (고후5:14).

이 일은 조건 없는 하나님의 사랑을 확증하는 일이다(롬5:8). 우리 그리스도인들은 하나님의 사랑 하나뿐인 외아들을 죽게 하신 일을 평생 잊지 말아야 한다. 그리고 그 사랑의 빚진 마음을 삶을 통하여 보여야 한다.

그것은 나의 삶의 목적이 내 자신을 위함이 아닌 하나님의 영광이 되어야 한다. 그 방법은 나를 위하여 죽으셨다가 다시 살아나신 예수 그리스도를 위한 삶이 어야 한다(고후5:15).

미국 워싱턴에 있는 한 대형 한인교회에서 부흥회를 인도할 때 있었던 일이다. 그 교회 시무장로님께서 오늘 세 번째로 슈퍼마켓을 개업하는 날인데, 강사인 제가 가서 축복기도를 해달리기에 함께 승용차를 타고 갔다.

승용차 안에서 담임목사님께서 하신 말씀에 은혜가 됐다 지나번 두번째와  오늘 세 번째는 개업은 모두다 교회에서 파송한 선교사들을 돕기 위함이라고 하셨다. 그 교회에서 파송한 선교사들이 80영여명인데, 오늘 그 장로님께서는 현재 일곱 명의 선교사 생활비를 지원하는 선교헌금을 매달 하나님께 바치는 중이란다.

이번에 개업한것도 선교사님들을 돕기 위함이란다. 수퍼마켙 한개의 수입으로 선교사 세 분의  생활비를 지원할수 있다고 한다. 그리고 교회 장로님들은 하나같이 담임목사님께서 하시는 목회사역에 적극 돕는자로서의 역할을 한다고  자랑스럽게 말씀하셨다.

역시 부흥하는 교회들은 주와 복음을 위한 일에 하나가 된다는 사실을 재확인 케 했다 

교회부흥은 거룩한 불씨들의 헌신에 달려있다. 자기를 대신하여 죽으신 예수 그리스도를 위해 자기도 죽어야 한다는 이 거룩한 삶의 목표가 그들의 삶을 이끌어 가고 있는 것이다 (고후5:15)

그러므로 정상적인 그리스도인들은 무엇을 하든지 다 하나님의 영광만을 생각한다(고전10:31). 그들은 자기를 부인하고 각각  자기가 져야할 십자가를 지고 주님을 따른다(마16:24)

그들은 자신이 주님의 것임을 알기에 (시100:3,고전6:19~20) 주님을 위해서 사는 것이다.  그리스도인이란 그리스도에게 속한 자요 또한 그분의 성품을 닮은 자이기 때문이다.

(His Death in Our Place)

Jesus Christ's death on the cross was, in a sense, the death of us all, for He died in the place of every sinner (2 Corinthians 5:14).

His sacrificial death is the ultimate demonstration of God's unconditional love (Romans 5:8). As Christians, we must never forget that God gave His one and only Son to die for us. Throughout our lives, we should express our gratitude for this immeasurable love through the way we live.

The purpose of our lives should no longer be centered on ourselves but on the glory of God. We accomplish this by living for Jesus Christ, who died and was raised again for our sake (2 Corinthians 5:15).

I experienced a memorable example of this while leading a revival meeting at a large Korean church in Washington, D.C. One of the church elders invited me to offer a prayer of dedication for the opening of his third supermarket.

On the way there, the senior pastor shared something that deeply touched my heart. He explained that both the elder's second and third supermarkets had been opened with one purpose—to support the missionaries sent out by their church. The church had commissioned more than eighty missionaries, and this elder was faithfully giving monthly mission offerings to cover the living expenses of seven of them.

The newly opened supermarket had the same purpose: to support missionaries. The income from a single supermarket was sufficient to provide the living expenses for three missionary families. The pastor also proudly shared that the church elders worked together in unity, wholeheartedly supporting the ministry and vision of the senior pastor.

Once again, I was reminded that thriving churches are united in their commitment to the Lord and to the work of the gospel.

The growth of the church depends on the dedication of believers whose hearts burn with holy devotion. Their lives are guided by one sacred purpose: because Jesus Christ died in their place, they are willing to die to themselves and live for Him (2 Corinthians 5:15).

Therefore, healthy Christians seek God's glory in everything they do (1 Corinthians 10:31). They deny themselves, take up their own cross, and follow Christ (Matthew 16:24).

They live for the Lord because they know that they belong to Him (Psalm 100:3; 1 Corinthians 6:19–20). A Christian is one who belongs to Christ and increasingly reflects His character.
