우리가 믿는 예수 그리스도는 낙오자들의 구원자이시다. 낙오자는 어떤 대열에서 되쳐졌거나 목표를 이루는 과정에서 중도에 탈락된 자이다.

나는 한때 서울대학교 로스쿨에서 50여 명의 그리스도인들로 구성된 신우회를 지도하였다. 모두 다 사법고시를 준비하고 있는 분들이었다.

어느 날 신임 회장이 나에게 ‘주안에서 형제자매들이기에 다 사랑하지만, 고시에 합격된자들은 제한적이기에 누군가는 떨어져야만 내가 붙는다는 나쁜생각이 든다’며 고민을 털어 놓았다. 이 사회는 서로 경쟁을 해야 한다.

그래서 낙오자가 생긴다. 그러나 그리스도안에는 경쟁자가 없다. 하나님께서는 우리를 상대평가하지 않으시고 절대평가만 하신다. 그래서 갖게 되는것이 자존감이다. 주님께서 서로 다른 은사들을 주셨기에 서로를 귀히 여긴다.

예수 그리스도께서는 낙오자들에게 더욱 더 큰 관심을 가지신다. 예수님께서는 사마리아 수가성에서 전에 남편이 다섯이나 있었고 지금 살고 있는 남자도 자신의 남편이 아니었다. 죄 많은 여자다. 그래서 그녀는 사람들의 이목을 피해서 일부러 대낮에 우물가에 나왔다가 메시아를 만난 것이다, 아니, 예수님께서 그녀를 만난 것이다.

죄인을 구원하기 위해 오신 그리스도를 만난 여인은 물동이를 우물가에 두고 동네로 들어가서 수 많은 사람들을 전도한다.

또한 38년 된 난치병자는 베데스다 연못에 기끔씩 천사가 내려와서 물을 움직일 때에 어떤 병자도 고침받는다는 말을 듣고 한 가닥 희망을 갖고 그곳에 왔으나 물이 동할때에 다른 사람들이 먼저 들어갔기 때문에 그는 늘 낙오자였다.

그러데 예수께서 그를 찾아 오셔서 그의 병을 고쳐 주셨다. 낙오자의 구원자가 되어 주신 것이다. 옛날이나 오늘날에도 가난하고 병들고 약해서 낙오자가 된 분들이 많다. 이런 분들에게 그리스도는 사람의 마지막이 새로운 시작이 되신다

그러므로 예수 그리스도는 낙오자들에게 유일한 구원자시다. 우리의 삶의 희망이시며 참된 가치시다. 그러므로 선한 경쟁에서 낙오자가 된 자신을 바라보고 낙심하지 말라. 믿음의 주요 또 온전하게 하시는 예수님만 바라보자(히12:2).

Savior for Those Left Behind

Jesus Christ, whom we believe in, is the Savior for those who have been left behind. A person left behind is someone who has been pushed out of a line or has dropped out before reaching the goal.

At one time I led a Christian fellowship of about fifty members at Seoul National University Law School. All of them were preparing for the national bar examination.

One day the newly elected president confided in me, saying, “Because we are brothers and sisters in the Lord, I love everyone. But since only a limited number can pass the bar exam, I sometimes have the bad thought that someone else must fail for me to succeed.” Such is the nature of this society: people must compete with one another.

As a result, some people are left behind. But in Christ there are no competitors. God does not evaluate us relative to one another; He evaluates us by an absolute standard. From this comes our sense of worth. Since the Lord has given different gifts to each of us, we learn to value one another.

Jesus Christ shows even greater concern for those who have been left behind. In the Samaritan town of Sychar, Jesus met a woman who had previously had five husbands, and the man she was living with was not her husband. She was a sinful woman. To avoid the eyes of others, she deliberately came to the well at midday. There she met the Messiah or rather, Jesus came to meet her.
