예수님만 바라 보자

우리 그리스도인들 가운데는 성삼위일체 하나님이 함께하신 자라고 생각해서 그를 존경하고  따르다가 크게 실망하고 낙심하는 자들이 있다.

이사야 선지자는 유다의 웃시야 왕을 존경해 왔었다. 그가 16세에 왕이 된 후 52년 동안이나 하나님을 사랑하고 그의 법도대로 살아서 그의 나라와 그의 명성이 온 세상에 널리 알려졌기 때문이다.

그러데 그가 68세가 되던 해에 마음이 교만하여져서  악을 행하므로 여호와께서 그를 나병으로 쳐서 죽게 하셨기 때문이다(대하26장). 그는 거의 한평생을 하나님과 동행했던 자인데.....

이사야는 큰 충격을 받고 성전에 들어가서 기도를 하던중 또 한번 더  크게 놀란일은  여호와께서 그의 영안을 열어서 자신의 모습을 보게 하셨는데 자기의 입술이 부정한 죄인임을 보게 된 것이다. 그때 그는 자기의 죄를 중심으로 회개함으로 죄 사함을 받는다(사(사6:5~7).

그는 그후에 예수그리스도에 대한 예언을 가장 많이한 선지자가 된다 (사7:14,9:6,53장등). 그는 하나님 앞에서 늘 자신을 돌아보는 일에  충실했다.

우리가 바라보고 따라가야 할 대상자는 예수 그리스도뿐이다. 그분만이 우리를 온전케 하신다(히12:2).

한때 청년들만 2,500여 명이 모이는 교회의 담임목사님을 우리 교회에 청년회 헌신예배의 강사로 모셨다. 새벽 두 시에 일어나서 기도하고 설교를 준비한다는 그의 간증에 은혜를 받았다.

얼마후에 그분이 대한 나쁜 소문이 언론에 나왔다. 그 교회 여대생들 하고 스캔들이 많아서 그 교회를 사임 했다고 했다. 사악한 마귀는 신령한 자들일수록 틈을 노린다.

재물로 이성으로 명예등으로 끈덕지게 기회를 엿본다. 정신을 차려야 한다. 근신하고 깨어 있어야 한다, 어렵고 힘이 들때는 겸손하더니 유명인사가 되고  재물이 많아지고 건강이 넘친것이 하나님께서 주의 일을 더 많이 그리고 더 크게 하라고 주신줄로 알고 더 많이 낮아져야 한다.

익은 곡식일수록 고개를 숙인다. 거센 물결에 계속 그루는 돌들은 이끼가 돋지 않는다. 사도 바울은 성령을 받았어도 교회 안에서 파벌 다툼을 하던 고린도교회를 향하여 "내가 그리스도를 본받는 자가 된 것 같이 너희는 나를 본받는 자가 되라" (고전11:1)고 하였다.

그리스도인이란 그리스도에게 속한 자요 또한 그리스도를 닮은자 임을 명심하자. 우리가 바라보고  따라가야 할 분은 오직 우리 주 예수 그리스도뿐이다. 우리를 자기에게 속한 자가 되게 하시고 자기를 닮게 하시기 위하여 범사에 본을 보여 주시면서 "나를 따라오라" 하신 분은 오직 예님뿐이시다(벧전2:21).

Let Us Fix Our Eyes on Jesus Alone



Among Christians, there are those who highly respect and follow someone because they believe that person walks closely with the Triune God. Yet, when that person fails, they become deeply disappointed and discouraged.

The prophet Isaiah greatly admired King Uzziah of Judah. Uzziah became king at the age of sixteen, and for fifty-two years he loved God and lived according to God's laws. As a result, his kingdom prospered, and his fame spread throughout the world.

However, when he reached the age of sixty-eight, his heart became proud, and he sinned against God. Therefore, the Lord struck him with leprosy, and he remained a leper until the day of his death (2 Chronicles 26). He had walked with God for nearly his entire life.

Isaiah was deeply shocked. As he entered the temple to pray, something even more astonishing happened. The Lord opened his spiritual eyes so that he saw himself as he truly was. He realized that he was a sinner with unclean lips. At that moment, he repented of his sins, and the Lord forgave and cleansed him (Isaiah 6:5–7).

Afterward, Isaiah became the prophet who spoke more prophecies about Jesus Christ than any other Old Testament prophet (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; 53). He remained faithful in continually examining himself before God.

The One we are to look to and follow is Jesus Christ alone. Only He is able to make us complete and perfect (Hebrews 12:2).

Many years ago, our church invited the senior pastor of a church with more than 2,500 young adults to speak at our youth dedication service. His testimony deeply moved us as he shared that he woke up at two o'clock every morning to pray and prepare his sermons.

Not long afterward, disturbing news about him appeared in the media. Reports said that he had been involved in multiple scandals with female college students in his church, and he eventually resigned from his position. Satan especially looks for opportunities to attack those who appear to be spiritually mature.

He persistently tempts people through wealth, sexual temptation, and the pursuit of honor and recognition. Therefore, we must remain spiritually alert. We must be self-controlled and watchful. It is often during times of hardship that people remain humble. But when they become well known, gain wealth, and enjoy good health, they should recognize these blessings as gifts from God to serve Him more faithfully and more effectively. The greater God's blessings, the more humble we should become.

The fuller the grain, the lower it bows its head. Likewise, stones that are continually rolled by strong currents do not gather moss.

Although the Apostle Paul had received the Holy Spirit, he exhorted the Corinthian church, where divisions and factions had arisen:

"Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ." (1 Corinthians 11:1)

Let us remember that a Christian is one who belongs to Christ and is becoming more like Him. The One we must fix our eyes on and follow is our Lord Jesus Christ alone. He alone has made us His own, and He alone has shown us the perfect example in every aspect of life, saying, "Follow Me" (1 Peter 2:21).
