북한 평양 대동 강가에는 세계에서 가장 높은 183m의 석탑이 세워져 있다. 이는 김일성의 70회 생일을 기념하여 건설되었으며, 북한 주민들은 이를 자랑스럽게 여긴다.

석탑 아래에는 김일성의 생일을 상징하는 4m 높이, 15m 길이의 대리석 조형물이 있으며, 그 위에는 “모든 것의 주인은 사람이며, 모든 일의 결정은 사람이 한다"라는 문구가 새겨져 있다.

기독교 신앙은 이에 정반대된다. 우리는 모든 것의 주인이 하나님이시며, 역사의 주관자 또한 하나님이심을 믿는다(딤전 6:15). 더욱이, 김일성 동상이 세워진 곳은 과거 평양 장대현교회 자리로, 이는 북한이 하나님 대신 김일성을 신격화한 사회임을 보여준다. 북한은 김일성을 성부, 현재 통치자를 성자, 주체사상을 성령으로 삼아 왜곡된 ‘삼위일체’를 형성했다.

역사는 하나님을 떠난 나라가 결국 멸망했음을 증거한다(롬 15:4). 바벨론이 느부갓네살 왕을 신으로 섬기다가 망한 것처럼, 북한도 동일한 길을 걷고 있다. 그러나 자유를 찾아 대한민국으로 온 탈북민이 3만 5천 명을 넘는 것은 하나님의 역사하심을 보여준다.

오늘날 교회는 예수 중심(요 5:39), 성경 중심(딤후 3:16~17), 교회 중심(엡 1:22~23)으로 굳게 서야 한다. 이러한 신본주 의적 신앙을 가진 자는 주의 종을 존중하고(살전 5:12~13), 신뢰한다(대하 20:20). 반면, 인본주의가 교회 안에 들어오면 분쟁이 생기고, 이는 십자가의 원수가 된다(히 12:14).

십자가 없는 부활은 없다. 예수님은 화목을 위해 십자가를 지셨고, 우리도 십자가를 지고 따라야 한다(고후 5:18~19). 하나님을 대신해 사람을 높이는 인본주의는 반(反) 성경적이며, 이단들의 교주들이 그러하듯 북한도 같은 길을 가고 있다.

기독교는 철저한 신본 주의를 지켜야 한다. 예수 그리스도만이 유일한 구 주시며(요 14:6), 그를 믿는 자는 하나님의 자녀가 된다(요 1:12). 그러므로 우리의 삶의 의미, 가치, 목적, 수단과 방법은 모두 예수그리스도 안에 있어야 하며(빌 1:20~21), 무엇을 하든지 하나님의 영광을 위해 해야 한다(고전 10:31).

참된 신앙생활은 성경 중심, 예수 중심, 교회 중심의 삶을 사는 것이다. 이는 끊임없는 영적 전쟁이지만, 예수를 믿는 자에게 삼위일체 하나님께서 승리를 주신다(고전 15:57~58).

Thorough God-Centered Faith

On the banks of the Taedong River in Pyongyang, North Korea, stands a 183-meter-tall stone tower—the tallest of its kind in the world. It was built to commemorate the 70th birthday of Kim Il-sung, and North Korean residents take pride in it.

Beneath the tower is a marble sculpture measuring 4 meters high and 15 meters long, symbolizing Kim Il-sung’s birthday. Engraved on it are the words: “Man is the master of everything, and all decisions are made by man.”

The Christian faith stands in complete opposition to this idea. We believe that God is the master of all things and the sovereign ruler of history (1 Timothy 6:15). Moreover, the place where Kim Il-sung’s statue now stands was once the site of Jangdaehyun Church in Pyongyang. This shows that North Korea is a society that has deified Kim Il-sung in place of God. North Korea has formed a distorted “Trinity,” with Kim Il-sung as the Father, the current ruler as the Son, and the Juche ideology as the Holy Spirit.

History testifies that nations which abandon God ultimately perish (Romans 15:4). Just as Babylon fell after worshiping King Nebuchadnezzar as a god, North Korea is walking the same path. However, the fact that more than 35,000 North Korean defectors have come to South Korea in search of freedom demonstrates God’s work in history.

Today, the church must stand firmly on being Christ-centered (John 5:39), Bible-centered (2 Timothy 3:16–17), and church-centered (Ephesians 1:22–23). Those who hold such a God-centered faith respect the Lord’s servants (1 Thessalonians 5:12–13) and trust them (2 Chronicles 20:20). In contrast, when human-centered thinking enters the church, conflict arises, and it becomes an enemy of the cross (Hebrews 12:14).

There is no resurrection without the cross. Jesus bore the cross for reconciliation, and we too must take up our cross and follow Him (2 Corinthians 5:18–19). Humanism that elevates people in place of God is anti-biblical, and just as cult leaders do, North Korea is walking that same path.

Christianity must maintain a thoroughly God-centered faith. Jesus Christ alone is the only Savior (John 14:6), and those who believe in Him become children of God (John 1:12). Therefore, the meaning, value, purpose, means, and methods of our lives must all be found in Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:20–21), and whatever we do, we must do it for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).

True Christian living is a life centered on the Bible, centered on Jesus, and centered on the church. This is a continual spiritual battle, but to those who believe in Jesus, the Triune God grants victory (1 Corinthians 15:57–58).
