"성령으로 거듭난 새 사람이 되면 그 사람의 심령이 삼위일체 하나님의 마음과 생각으로 바뀐다.

야곱이 외삼촌 집에서 20여 년을 살면서 여러 여자에게서 자녀를 낳았고, 소유한 짐승도 엄청나게 많았다. 고향으로 돌아가려면 얍복강을 건너야 했다. 강 건너편에서 형 에서가 400명의 군사를 거느리고 기다린다는 소식을 듣고 야곱은 크게 충격을 받았다. 과거 팥죽 한 그릇으로 장자의 명분을 빼앗은 악행을 에서가 기억하고 자신을 죽이려 할 것이라 두려워했다.

그러나 야곱이 여호와 앞에서 울며(호 12:4) 과거 잘못을 회개하고 도움을 구하자, 하나님께서 그의 이름을 ‘하나님과 겨루어 이긴 자’라는 뜻의 이스라엘로 바꾸어 주셨다. 그를 새 사람이 되게 하신 분이 주 여호와 하나님이시다.

새사람이 된 후 에서를 만나자 놀라운 일이 벌어졌다. 에서가 힘든 광야 길을 인도해 주겠다고 나섰다(창 33:12).

천국의 시작은 회개이다. 주님께서 의의 병기로, 평화의 도구로, 축복의 통로로 쓰시는 것도 마찬가지다. 바울을 보라. 회개하고 복음을 믿기 전에는 죄인 중의 괴수였다. 그러나 예수님을 주인으로 섬긴 후에는 기독교 2천 년 역사에서 길이 빛나는 별이 되었다. 이제 우리도 2026년의 새 역사를 맞이하기전 얍복강가의 야곱처럼 지난 죄를 회개하자. 그리하여 새로운 피조물로 거듭나자.

심령으로 변화 받은 새사람을 입자(웹 4:22~24). 우리가 새사람이 될 때 살아계신 하나님께서 새 일을 행하실 것이다(사 43:19~20). 성 삼위일체의 하나님이 내 주인이 되고 나는 그의 소유된 자로서 세 가지를 잘 관리하자.

첫 번째는 시간 관리다.

하루 24시간은 누구에게나 주어진다. 이를 크로노스(Χρόνος)라 한다. 그러나 하나님과 함께하는 시간은 카이로스(Καιρός)라 부른다. 예배하고 기도하며 성경 읽는 시간이다.

두 번째는 재물 관리다.

수입이 같아도 주님을 더 사랑하는 자가 더 많이 드린다. 헌금은 신앙의 척도이다.

세 번째는 직분에 충실함이다.

맡은 자에게 구할 것은 충성이다(고전 4:2). 다윗이 아버지의 양을 잘 지키더니 이스라엘 왕으로 세움을 받았다. 작은 일에 충성해야 큰일을 맡기신다.

충성은 나의 재능에 따라서 주님께서 내게 맡겨주신 일에 최선을 다하는 것이다. 주님께서 가르쳐주신 달란트 비유를 보라. 받은 다섯 달란트로 또 다섯 달란트를 남긴 종이나 받은 두 달란트로 두 달란트를 남긴 종에게 칭찬하신 내용들은 한 점 일획까지 똑같다(마 25:21, 23).

새해에는 주님이 원하시는 내가 되자. 

When a person is reborn by the Holy Spirit, their heart is transformed to reflect the mind and thoughts of the triune God.

Jacob lived for more than 20 years in his uncle’s household, fathering children by several women and amassing great flocks and herds. To return to his homeland, he had to cross the Jabbok River. When Jacob heard that his brother Esau was waiting on the other side with 400 men, he was deeply shocked. He feared that Esau would seek to kill him, remembering the wrongdoing of having taken the birthright with a single bowl of stew.

However, when Jacob wept before the LORD (Heb. 12:4), repenting for his past mistakes and seeking help, God changed his name to Israel, meaning “he who struggles with God and prevails.” It was the Lord God Himself who made Jacob a new person.

After becoming a new person, an amazing thing happened when Jacob met Esau: Esau offered to guide him through the difficult wilderness journey (Gen. 33:12). The beginning of the kingdom of heaven is repentance. The Lord also uses those who have repented as instruments of righteousness, tools of peace, and channels of blessing. Consider Paul: before repentance and believing the gospel, he was the worst of sinners. Yet after serving Jesus as Lord, he became a shining star in 2,000 years of Christian history.

Likewise, before entering the new year of 2026, let us repent of our past sins like Jacob at the Jabbok River, and be reborn as new creations. Put on the new person renewed in spirit (Eph. 4:22–24). When we become new persons, the living God will do new things through us (Isa. 43:19–20).

Let the triune God be our Lord, and as His possessed ones, manage three things well:

First, manage your time.
Everyone is given 24 hours a day—this is called Chronos (Χρόνος). But the time spent with God is called Kairos (Καιρός): time for worship, prayer, and reading the Scriptures.

Second, manage your resources.
Even if income is the same, the one who loves the Lord more will give more. Offering is a measure of faith.

Third, be faithful in your duties.
Faithfulness is what is required of those entrusted with responsibility (1 Cor. 4:2). David faithfully cared for his father’s sheep and was later appointed king of Israel. Faithfulness in small matters prepares one for greater responsibilities.

Faithfulness means giving your best to the tasks the Lord entrusts to you according to your talents. Look at the parable of the talents: the servants who doubled the five talents and the two talents were both praised in exactly the same way (Matt. 25:21, 23).

In the new year, let us become the person the Lord desires us to be.
