믿음으로 산다는 것은...
우리 그리스도인들은 믿음으로 산다. 무엇을 어떻게 믿고 산다는 것일까? 오직 믿음을 라틴어로 솔라 피데(Sola Fide)라고 한다. 예수님을 오직 그리스도로 믿는다. 오직 그리스도를 라틴어로 솔라 크리스투스(Sola Christus)라고 한다. 이는 그리스도 외에는 구원자가 없다는 뜻이다(행 4:12).
그런데 예수님을 유일한 구원자로 믿는 믿음은 오직 성령으로만 가능하다(고전 12:3). 죄는 우리 조상이 범했고 우리가 범했는데, 그 죗값은 예수 그리스도께서 대신 치러 주셨으니, 이것이 큰 기쁨의 좋은 소식인 복음이다(사 53:5~6).
이를 라틴어로 솔라 그라티아(Sola Gratia)라고 한다. 예수 그리스도를 십자가에 못 박아 죽인 자들은 역사적으로는 헤롯 왕, 총독 빌라도, 대제사장들, 가룟 유다 등이다. 하지만 영적으로는 우리 각자다. 우리들의 죄 때문에 죽으셨으니, 우리가 예수님을 죽인 살인자들이 된 것이다. 이것이 깨달은 은혜이다. 깨닫고 회개한 자들이 살아가는 지침서가 바로 성경이다.
오직 성경을 라틴어로 솔라 스크립투라(Sola Scriptura)라고 한다. 이 세상에서 이미 이루어진 일들도, 지금 하고 있는 일들도, 앞으로 이루어질 일들도 모두 성경대로 되었고 될 것이다. 그러므로 이미 기록된 성경 외에 더하거나 빼면 그는 크게 형벌을 받게 된다(계 22:18~19). 예수를 믿는다는 것은 오직 성경 말씀대로 사는 것이다. 구약 39권, 신약 27권, 모두 66권이다. 모두 1,189장이며 31,102절이다. 이것들 외에 더하지도 말고 덜하지도 말아야 한다.
믿음으로 산다는 것은 마지막으로 무슨 일을 하든지 다 하나님의 영광을 위해 해야 한다(고전 10:31). 이를 라틴어로 솔라 데오 글로리아(Sola Deo Gloria)라고 한다.
우리 그리스도인들의 몸은 하나님께서 그리스도의 피로 값 주고 사신 하나님의 소유다(고전 6:19~20). 우리는 주인 되신 하나님의 뜻을 따라 청지기로서의 사명을 다해야 한다. 살아도 주를 위하여, 죽어도 주를 위하여 죽어야 하니, 우리가 주의 것이기 때문이다(롬 14:8).
주님의 부르심에는 아무나 누구든지 구원의 대상으로서의 부르심이 있다. 또 다른 차원의 부르심이 있다. 주의 일꾼으로서의 부르심이다. 교회에서의 일꾼으로 부르심을 받은 자들은 선택받은 나귀를 생각해야 한다. 예수님을 태우고 가는 길에 사람들이 벗은 옷들로 길을 덮고 호산나를 외쳐 댄다. 예수 그리스도를 왕으로 환영하다 보니 나귀도 함께 환영을 받는다.
Living by Faith…
We Christians live by faith. But what does it mean to live by faith? The essence of faith is summarized in the Latin Reformation principles.
- Sola Fide (Faith Alone): We believe in Jesus alone as the Christ. Salvation comes only through Him (Acts 4:12).
- Sola Christus (Christ Alone): There is no other Savior besides Christ. Faith in Him as the only Savior is only possible through the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3).
Our sins were committed by our ancestors and by ourselves, yet Jesus Christ paid the penalty on our behalf. This is the good news of great joy, the gospel (Isaiah 53:5–6).
- Sola Gratia (Grace Alone): Spiritually, each of us is responsible for Christ’s death. Those who crucified Him in history—Herod, Pilate, the chief priests, Judas—were, in reality, us. Recognizing this grace leads to repentance.
- Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone): The Bible is the guide for those who have understood and repented. Everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen occurs according to Scripture. To add or subtract from it brings severe judgment (Revelation 22:18–19). Faith in Jesus is living according to the Word of God, which includes 66 books, 1,189 chapters, and 31,102 verses. Nothing more, nothing less.
- Sola Deo Gloria (Glory to God Alone): To live by faith means that whatever we do must be for God’s glory (1 Corinthians 10:31). Our bodies belong to God, purchased by the blood of Christ (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). As stewards of what God has entrusted to us, we must live for Him—in life and in death (Romans 14:8).
All who are called by the Lord are called to salvation, but there is also a higher calling to serve as workers in His church. Those called to serve should consider the example of the chosen donkey. When Jesus rode it, people laid their garments on the road and shouted “Hosanna!” The donkey, because it carried the King, also received honor.
Living by faith means being fully aligned with God’s will, serving Him, and glorifying Him in everything we do, just as the donkey faithfully carried the Lord to fulfill His mission.
