주의 일을 많이 하고도 천국에 들어가지 못하는 자들이 있다. 이는 불법을 행했기 때문이다(마 7:21~23). 불법이란 예수 그리스도의 중심이 아닌 자기 중심이다. 삼위일체 하나님만 드러내지 않고 자기를 드러내는 것이다.

오직 주와 복음을 위해 자기 목숨을 내놓았던 바울은 늘 피동사(被動詞)를 사용하였다. 온전한 믿음이란 무지무능(無知無能)한 내가 전지전능(全知全能)하신 분께서 주신 지혜나 능력으로만 온전해질 수 있다. 그러므로 하나님 앞에서 겸손해야 한다. 그는 하나님의 말씀에 사로잡힌 자로 하나님의 일을 하였으며(행 18:5), 하나님 말씀의 저자이신 성령에 매인 사명자였다(행 20:22~24). 또한 성경의 핵심이신 예수님(요 5:39)께 사로잡힌 자로 일했다(빌 3:12~14).

정상적인 그리스도인들은 자기를 부인하므로 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 가지신 주님과 동행한다(마 28:18~20). 우리 그리스도인들을 온전케 하시는 분은 오직 예수 그리스도 한 분뿐이다(히 12:2).

오늘의 교회는 아무나 오라고 부른다. 가난한 자, 병든 자, 죄 있는 자들을 모두 오라고 부른다. 그러나 천국에는 죄 있는 자들이 들어가지 못한다. 회개하고 복음을 믿는 자들(막 1:15)만 들어간다. 천국은 온전하게 된 의인들의 영들의 모임이다(히 12:23). 신학에서는 온전한 영혼 구원을 3단계의 성장 과정으로 설명하고 있다.

첫 번째는 칭의(稱義, Justification)이다. 누구든지 예수 그리스도께서 이루신 대속의 피를 믿음으로 죄 사함을 받게 됨을 믿는 자들에게 하나님께서 의롭다고 인정해 주시는 단계이다(롬 10:10, 엡 2:8~10).

두 번째는 성화(聖化, Sanctification) 단계이다. 칭의는 단번에 주어지는 것이나, 성화는 점진적으로 거룩하신 예수 그리스도를 닮아가는 것이다. 유혹에 자주 넘어지는 어린아이의 믿음에서 장성한 그리스도 예수님 수준까지 자라는 것이다(엡 4:14~15).

세 번째는 영화(榮化, Glorification) 단계이다. 이 일은 육신을 벗고 난 후 천국에서 이루어지는 구원의 완성이다.

예수를 믿는 궁극적인 목적은 천국에 들어가는 것이다. 죽은 고기는 몸집이 커도 물 위에 둥둥 떠서 아래로 흘러가지만, 산 물고기는 물속에서 흐르는 물결을 헤치며 위로 올라간다.

그리스도 예수의 산 생명을 모신 우리 그리스도인들은 세속에 물들어 죽은 고기처럼 되지 말고, 그리스도 예수 안에서 살아있는 물고기처럼 저 높은 곳을 향하여 날마다 나아가자.

The Fulfillment of Salvation

There are those who do many works for the Lord yet fail to enter heaven, because they practice lawlessness (Matthew 7:21–23). Lawlessness means living not with Jesus Christ at the center, but with oneself at the center—revealing oneself rather than revealing the Triune God.

The apostle Paul, who laid down his life solely for the Lord and the gospel, consistently spoke in the passive voice. True faith is the realization that an ignorant and powerless person like me can be made complete only through the wisdom and power given by the all-knowing and all-powerful God. Therefore, we must be humble before God. Paul worked as one who was captivated by the Word of God (Acts 18:5), bound by the Holy Spirit—the author of that Word—as a servant with a mission (Acts 20:22–24). He also labored as one seized by Jesus Christ, who is the very center of Scripture (John 5:39; Philippians 3:12–14).

Normal Christians deny themselves and therefore walk together with the Lord who possesses all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18–20). The only One who perfects us Christians is Jesus Christ alone (Hebrews 12:2).

Today’s church calls everyone to come—the poor, the sick, and sinners alike. However, no one with unrepented sin can enter the kingdom of heaven. Only those who repent and believe the gospel may enter (Mark 1:15).

Heaven is the assembly of the spirits of the righteous who have been made perfect (Hebrews 12:23). In theology, the complete salvation of the soul is explained as a three-stage process.

The first stage is Justification. Anyone who believes that they are forgiven of sins through faith in the atoning blood accomplished by Jesus Christ is declared righteous by God (Romans 10:10; Ephesians 2:8–10).

The second stage is Sanctification. While justification is granted once and for all, sanctification is a gradual process of becoming more like the holy Jesus Christ. It is growth from the faith of a child who frequently falls into temptation to the maturity of Christ Himself (Ephesians 4:14–15).

The third stage is Glorification. This is the completion of salvation, which takes place in heaven after we lay aside our earthly bodies.

The ultimate purpose of believing in Jesus is to enter heaven. A dead fish, no matter how large, floats on the surface and drifts downstream. But a living fish swims against the current and moves upward. We Christians, who have received the living life of Christ Jesus, must not become like dead fish, drifting along and stained by the world. Rather, let us be like living fish in Christ Jesus, pressing upward day by day toward the heights.
