Because We Are Loved by the Lord
There is a person who is happier than anyone else in this world: the person who is chosen and loved by God (Deut. 33:29). When Esther found favor in the eyes of King Ahasuerus, the king said to her, “What is your request? Even up to half of the kingdom, it will be given to you” (Esth. 5:3).
How much more, then, if we find favor in the eyes of the Lord, the King of kings and Lord of lords? What would He not give us? The Lord’s love for us has two dimensions.
First, there is the love between friends. The Lord calls us His friends and demonstrated the greatest possible love by laying down His life for us on the cross. He also tells us, “Lay down your life for your friends” (John 15:13–14).
Second, there is the love that says, “Even so,” or “nevertheless.” This is transcendent and perfect love. At one point, Peter, the foremost of Jesus’ disciples, acted as an instrument of Satan (Matt. 16:21–23). Nevertheless, the Lord prayed for him so that his faith would not fail (Luke 22:32).
In the end, Peter came to understand this love of the Lord, even if only later. He loved the Lord to the point of death, and according to tradition, he was crucified upside down. That is why Scripture says, “Love is as strong as death” (Song of Songs 8:6).
Our salvation as Christians rests in the Lord’s sacrificial death, which is the ultimate demonstration of God’s love for us (Rom. 5:8).
Those whom the Lord loves are protected from the evil one as long as they still have a mission to fulfill (1 John 5:18). This love of the Lord strengthens our hearts and gives us courage. Nothing in this world can separate us from the love of Christ (Rom. 8:35). Moreover, the Lord enables us to overcome every hardship triumphantly (Rom. 8:37).
Therefore, a person who is loved by the Lord always has a bright face and a smile. Such a person bows humbly to everyone in greeting and serves others. Because they are loved by the Lord, the joy and peace He has placed in their hearts naturally shine through their expressions and the way they live.
