오직 그리스도
온 인류를 죄와 사망, 그리고 영원한 지옥의 형벌로부터 구원하실 분은 오직 예수 그리스도 한 분뿐이시다. 예수는 사람의 이름이고, 그리스도는 ‘기름 부음을 받은 자’라는 뜻으로 직분을 나타내는 이름이다.
하나님께서 지명하여 세우신 선지자나 왕, 그리고 제사장을 세우실 때에는 머리에 기름을 부었다. 이는 하나님께서 맡기신 일을 감당하도록 일반 사람들과 구별하여 세우신 자들임을 보여준 것이다.
그런데 예수님을 ‘그리스도’라고 부르는 것은 예수님께서 선지자, 왕, 제사장의 세 가지 직분을 모두 감당하시는 분이심을 의미한다. 예수 그리스도만이 하나님과 사람 사이의 유일한 중보자이시다(요 14:6).
모든 사람은 부정모혈(父精母血)로 태어나지만, 예수 그리스도는 여자의 후손으로 오셨다(창 3:15). 남자를 알지 못하는 처녀 마리아에게 성령으로 잉태되어 세상에 오신 하나님의 본체이시다(사 7:14; 히 1:3).
온 인류의 죄를 대신 담당하시고 십자가에서 죽으신 분도 예수 그리스도뿐이시며, 죽으신 지 사흘 만에 다시 살아나신 분도 예수 그리스도 한 분뿐이시다.
이 비밀을 알게 된 우리 그리스도인들이 자신의 삶의 의미와 가치, 그리고 삶의 목표를 오직 예수 그리스도께 두는 것은 지극히 당연한 일이다.
10월은 종교개혁의 달이다. 독일의 마르틴 루터는 1517년 10월 31일, 당시 부패한 천주교가 면죄부를 판매하는 등 비성경적인 죄악을 지적하며 95개 조항을 비텐베르크 성 교회의 문에 게시했다.
그리고 우리 기독교가 반드시 알아야 할 다섯 가지 핵심이 있다. 그것은 오직 성경, 오직 믿음, 오직 은혜, 오직 그리스도, 오직 하나님의 영광이다.
우리는 이 다섯 가지를 지키고 전하기 위해 전심전력을 다해야 한다. 온 인류의 유일한 구원자는 오직 예수 그리스도 한 분뿐이시다.
Christ Alone
Only Jesus Christ can save all humanity from sin, death, and the eternal punishment of hell. Jesus is His personal name, while Christ means “the Anointed One” and refers to His office.
When God appointed and established prophets, kings, and priests, they were anointed with oil on their heads. This demonstrated that they were set apart from ordinary people to carry out the work God had entrusted to them.
Calling Jesus “Christ” means that He fulfills all three offices: Prophet, King, and Priest. Jesus Christ alone is the one and only Mediator between God and humanity (John 14:6).
All people are born through the union of a father and a mother, but Jesus Christ came as the offspring of the woman (Genesis 3:15). He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born into the world through the virgin Mary, who had never known a man. He is the very nature of God (Isaiah 7:14; Hebrews 1:3).
Jesus Christ alone bore the sins of all humanity and died on the cross in our place. He alone rose from the dead three days after His death.
Having come to know this mystery, it is only natural that we Christians should place the meaning and value of our lives, as well as the goal of our lives, in Jesus Christ alone.
October is Reformation Month. On October 31, 1517, the German reformer Martin Luther posted his Ninety-Five Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, challenging the unbiblical practices and corruption of the Roman Catholic Church at the time, including the selling of indulgences.
There are five essential truths that Christians must know and uphold: Scripture Alone, Faith Alone, Grace Alone, Christ Alone, and the Glory of God Alone.
We must give our wholehearted effort to uphold and proclaim these five truths. Jesus Christ alone is the one and only Savior of all humanity.
