오직 성령으로
우리 그리스도인들은 삼위일체 하나님을 믿는다. 성부 하나님께서 천지만물과 우리 인간을 창조하셨고, 성자이신 예수 그리스도께서 우리의 죄악을 대신 담당하시는 대속의 십자가를 지셨다. 이 놀라운 사실들을 바로 알게 하시고 믿어지게 하시는 믿음은 오직 성령님께서 주신다.
그러므로 성령으로 말미암지 아니하고는 예수님을 주로 시인할 수도, 구주로 알 수도 없다(고전 12:3). 신·구약 성경 전체는 오직 유일하신 구원자 예수 그리스도를 증언하는 책이다(요 5:39).
성령님에 대한 호칭은 다양하다. 성령님은 하나님의 영, 주의 영, 예수의 영, 그리스도의 영이라 불리신다. 이 성령님을 모신 자들에게는 참된 자유가 있다. 베드로는 전도하다가 옥에 갇혔고, 유월절이 지나면 헤롯 왕이 그를 공개 처형하려 하였음에도 불구하고 잠을 자고 있었다(행 12장). 또한 바울은 신들린 점쟁이 속에 있는 귀신을 쫓아냈다는 이유로 옥에 갇혔으나, 그곳에서도 기도하며 찬송하였다(행 16장).
성령님은 되게 하시는 분이시다. 나를 바르게 믿는 자가 되게 하시고, 교회를 질적으로·양적으로 부흥케 하셔서 새 성전이 건축되게 하신다. 이는 힘으로 되지 아니하며 능으로 되지 아니하고 오직 여호와의 영으로 되는 것이다(슥 4:6).
사도행전은 교회의 탄생이 성령 강림으로 시작되었음을 기록하고 있으며, 성도들의 질적·양적 부흥과 더불어 세계 선교의 역사를 증언한다. 이러한 성령의 역사는 지금도 계속 진행 중이다.
주 안에서 항상 기뻐하고, 쉬지 않고 기도하며, 범사에 감사하는 자들을 보라. 이들은 오직 성령으로 충만한 자들이다. 하나님께서는 사모하는 자의 영혼을 만족하게 하시며(시 107:9), 이미 지은 죄들을 중심으로 회개하는 자들에게 성령을 선물로 주신다(행 2:37~39).
이 같은 성령 충만을 계속 유지하기 위해서는 사도 바울처럼 자기 몸에서 그리스도를 존귀하게 하고자 하는 간절한 마음이 있어야 한다(빌 1:20~21).
오직 성령으로 충만한 자들은 하나님의 말씀에 붙잡히고(행 18:5), 성령에 매인다(행 20:22). 그 확증은 성도들의 눈물에도 흔들리지 않으며, 인간적인 권함에도 좌우되지 않는 것이다(행 21:13~14).
이들은 오직 주님께서 원하시고 기뻐하시는 일을 위하여 자기의 목숨까지도 내어놓는다. 그러므로 이러한 자들은 세상이 감당하지 못한다(히 11:38).
이같이 오직 성령으로 충만한 자들이 초대교회의 거룩한 불씨가 되었으며, 오늘날도 마찬가지이다. 개인의 바른 신앙생활과 교회의 참된 부흥은 오직 성령으로 충만함을 받은 자들에게서 시작된다. 그러므로 우리 모두가 그러한 자들이 되기를 소망한다.
Only by the Holy Spirit
We Christians believe in the Triune God. God the Father created the heavens and the earth and all things, including humanity. Jesus Christ, the Son, bore the cross of atonement, taking upon Himself our sins. It is only by the Holy Spirit that we come to truly understand and believe these amazing truths.
Therefore, no one can confess Jesus as Lord or know Him as Savior except by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3). The entire Bible, both Old and New Testaments, testifies to Jesus Christ as the one and only Savior (John 5:39).
There are many titles for the Holy Spirit. He is called the Spirit of God, the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of Jesus, and the Spirit of Christ. Those who have received the Holy Spirit have true freedom. Peter, while preaching, was imprisoned, and even though King Herod planned to execute him after the Passover, he was able to sleep (Acts 12). Likewise, Paul was imprisoned for casting out a demon from a fortune-telling slave girl, yet even in prison, he prayed and sang praises (Acts 16).
The Holy Spirit is the One who makes things happen. He enables us to become true believers, and He brings both qualitative and quantitative growth to the church, building a new temple. This is not accomplished by might or power, but by the Spirit of the Lord (Zechariah 4:6).
The Book of Acts records that the birth of the church began with the coming of the Holy Spirit and testifies to both the spiritual and numerical growth of believers, as well as the history of world missions. This work of the Holy Spirit continues even today.
Look at those who always rejoice in the Lord, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances. These are the ones filled with the Holy Spirit. God satisfies the longing soul (Psalm 107:9) and gives the Holy Spirit as a gift to those who repent of their sins (Acts 2:37–39).
To continually maintain this fullness of the Holy Spirit, we must have a sincere desire—like the Apostle Paul—to honor Christ in our bodies (Philippians 1:20–21).
Those who are filled with the Holy Spirit are devoted to the Word of God (Acts 18:5) and are bound by the Spirit (Acts 20:22). The evidence of this is that they are not shaken even by the tears of fellow believers, nor are they swayed by human persuasion (Acts 21:13–14).
Such people are willing to lay down even their lives for what the Lord desires and delights in. Therefore, the world cannot contain them (Hebrews 11:38).
In this way, those who are filled only with the Holy Spirit became the holy spark of the early church—and it is the same today. True personal faith and genuine revival of the church begin with those who are filled with the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we hope that all of us may become such people.
