하나님이 지으신 모든 피조물은 서로 다르다. 각종 동식물의 삶의 영역, 크기, 습성이 다르고, 사람도 남녀노소, 골격, 음성, 얼굴 생김새, 피부색이 다르다. 똑같이 생긴 쌍둥이도 지문이 다르다. 이러한 다름이 자존감을 갖게 하고, 서로를 필요로 하는 조화(調和)의 요소가 된다. 믿음의 수준도 마찬가지로 성숙한 믿음과 연약한 믿음이 있다.

그럼에도 불구하고 성도는 평안의 매는 줄로 성령이 하나 되게 하심을 힘써 지켜야 한다(엡 4:3). 찬양대에서 서로 다른 음색의 목소리들이 조화를 이루어 아름다운 화음을 만들어낸다.

그러나 틀림은 죄악이며, 박멸해야 할 심판의 대상이다. 신약성경에서 ‘죄’(하마르티아)의 원래의 뜻은 '양궁에서 과녁을 빗나가다'이다. 성경에서는 이를 하나님의 말씀에서 벗어난 언행심사(言行心思)로 여긴다.

오늘날 그리스도인들이 경계해야 할 것은 종교다원주의(Religious Pluralism)다. 모든 종교가 같다는 주장은 기독교 외에도 구원이 있다고 주장하며, 동성애를 옹호하고 지지한다. 그러나 그것은 틀린 것이다.

영생 구원은 오직 예수 그리스도를 구주로 믿는 일뿐이다(요 14:6, 행 4:12). 미국은 청교도의 신앙 위에 세워진 나라였기에, 모든 국공립학교에서 성경 공부가 의무 과목이었다. 그러나 1963년 종교다원주의 도입으로 성경 교육이 폐지되었고, 하나님 중심에서 사람 중심으로 변질되었다.

우리는 지금 세상에서 살고 있다. 미국에서 동성애 법이 통과(1995,6,26)된 후, '한 남자와 한 여자가 결혼해야 한다'는 성경 말씀을 '두 사람이 합의하면 결혼할 수 있다'라고 바꾸자고 외치고 있다. 나라의 법이 제정되었으니 성경까지 뜯어고치려는 주장이다.

하지만 천지가 없어져도 성경은 그대로 이루어진다(마 5:18). 우리는 진정한 그리스도인이 되어야 한다. 그리스도인이란 '그리스도에게 속한 자, 그리스도를 닮은 자'라는 뜻이다. 예수를 믿고 그 예수 그리스도와 하나 된 자들에게 최종적으로 붙여진 이름이 그리스도인이다(행 11:26).

그리스도인들은 이 세상에 살고 있지만 세상에 속하지 않는다. 이는 3.5% 염분이 있는 바다에서 사는 물고기가 자기 몸속에 염분이 스며들지 않는 것과 같다. 세상은 죄악으로 어둡다. 이미 빛의 자녀가 된 그리스도인들은 이제 일어나서 빛을 발해야 한다. 그때 영광의 하나님께서 함께하신다(사 60:1).

다름과 틀림을 분별하는 자가 지혜자이다.

The Wisdom to Discern Difference from Wrongness

All created beings made by God are different from one another. Animals and plants differ in their habitats, sizes, and characteristics. People also differ in gender, age, body structure, voice, facial features, and skin color. Even identical twins have different fingerprints. These differences give rise to healthy self-worth and become elements of harmony, making us need one another. The level of faith is similar as well—there is mature faith and weak faith.

Nevertheless, believers must make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3). Just as voices with different tones blend together in a choir to create beautiful harmony, diversity can produce unity.

However, wrongness is sin and is an object of judgment that must be eradicated. In the New Testament, the original meaning of the word “sin” (hamartia) is “to miss the mark,” as in archery. In Scripture, this refers to words, actions, thoughts, and intentions that deviate from God’s Word.

What Christians today must be on guard against is religious pluralism. The claim that all religions are the same insists that there is salvation outside of Christianity and often supports and endorses homosexuality. This, however, is wrong.

Eternal salvation is found only in believing in Jesus Christ as Savior (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). The United States was founded on Puritan faith, and for that reason Bible study was once a required subject in all public schools. However, with the introduction of religious pluralism in 1963, Bible education was abolished, and society shifted from being God-centered to human-centered.

We are now living in such a world. After laws supporting homosexuality were passed in the United States (June 26, 1995), there have been voices calling to change the biblical teaching “a man and a woman shall marry” into “any two people may marry if they agree.” Because national laws have been enacted, they now attempt to rewrite Scripture itself.

But even if heaven and earth pass away, Scripture will be fulfilled exactly as written (Matthew 5:18). We must become true Christians. The word “Christian” means “one who belongs to Christ” and “one who resembles Christ.” It is the name ultimately given to those who believe in Jesus and are united with Him (Acts 11:26).

Christians live in this world, but they do not belong to the world. This is like fish living in seawater with 3.5% salinity, yet not allowing the salt to permeate their bodies. The world is dark with sin. Christians, who are already children of the light, must now rise and shine. Then the God of glory will be with them (Isaiah 60:1).

Those who can discern between difference and wrongness are truly wise.
