정상적인 그리스도인의 삶은 선하신 하나님의 뜻을 이루는 삶이다. 하나님께서는 우리를 향한 뜻을 가지고 계신다. 하나님의 뜻이란 하나님께서 원하시고 바라시는 일들로, 보통 네 가지로 말할 수 있다. 이 뜻을 깨닫고 순종하는 삶이야말로 진정으로 의미 있고 흔들리지 않는 삶이다.

첫째는 우리의 거룩함이다(살전 4:3). 거룩이란 불순물이 섞이지 않은 순수하고 깨끗하며 구별된 상태를 의미한다. 우리가 믿는 하나님은 거룩하신 분이시며, 그 거룩함 속에는 하나님의 전지성, 전능성, 영원성, 불변성이 모두 포함되어 있다. 예수를 믿는 자들을 ‘성도’라고 부르는 것은 불신자들과 구별된 자들이라는 뜻이다. 이는 하나님의 말씀대로 살아가는 사람들이기 때문이다. 그러므로 우리는 날마다 말씀과 기도로 자신을 돌아보며 거룩함을 지켜가야 한다.

둘째는 모든 사람이 예수를 믿고 구원받는 것이다(요 6:40). 이를 위해 예수께서 이 땅에 오셨고(막 1:38), 제자들을 택하셨으며(막 3:14), 우리에게 성령의 권능을 주셨다(행 1:8). 그러므로 성도는 전도에 힘쓰며 하나님께서 기뻐하시는 일을 행해야 한다. 우리의 작은 순종과 나눔이 한 영혼을 살리는 통로가 될 수 있음을 기억해야 한다.

셋째는 범사에 감사함으로 하나님의 뜻을 이루는 것이다(살전 5:18). 온전한 믿음이란 모든 일 가운데 하나님을 인정하는 것이다(잠 3:6). 다니엘을 보라. 그는 사자굴에 던져질 것을 알면서도 하나님께 감사하였다(단 6:10). 그 결과, 다리오 왕은 다니엘과 그가 믿는 여호와 하나님을 온 세상에 알리게 되었다. 감사는 상황이 아니라 믿음의 선택이며, 우리의 시선을 하나님께로 향하게 한다.

넷째는 우리가 선한 일을 위하여 고난 받는 것이다(벧전 3:17). 이것이 하나님께서 우리에게 은혜를 주신 목적이다(빌 1:29). 어머니의 산통 없이 태어난 사람이 없듯이, 예수 그리스도께서 지신 대속의 십자가 없이는 죄 사함과 영생을 얻을 수 없다. 고난은 헛되지 않으며, 하나님 안에서 반드시 열매로 이어진다.

한 알의 밀이 땅에 떨어져 죽어야 많은 열매를 맺는 것처럼(요 12:24), 교회마다 사명의 십자가를 지는 사람들이 있기에 부흥이 일어난다. 보이지 않는 자리에서 헌신하는 이들을 통해 하나님 나라가 확장된다. 중요한 것은 각자가 그리스도인으로서 마땅히 해야 할 이 네 가지를 실천하는 것이다. 알고도 행하지 않는 것은 죄이다.

우리 모두 선한 목적이 이끄는 삶을 살자. 이를 위해 새벽마다 기도하고, 때로는 금식하며 나아가자. 그러면 주님께서 주시는 마음의 기쁨과 평안이 계속해서 충만할 것이다. 그 삶의 끝에서 우리는 하나님께서 이루신 열매를 기쁨으로 보게 될 것이다.

A Life Led by Purpose

A normal Christian life is one that fulfills the good will of God. God has a purpose for us. God’s will refers to the things He desires and intends, and it can generally be described in four ways. A life that understands and obeys this will is truly meaningful and unshakable.

First is our holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:3). Holiness means a pure, clean, and set-apart state without impurity. The God we believe in is holy, and within His holiness are His omniscience, omnipotence, eternity, and immutability. Those who believe in Jesus are called “saints,” meaning they are set apart from unbelievers. This is because they live according to God’s Word. Therefore, we must examine ourselves daily through the Word and prayer, and preserve our holiness.

Second is that all people would believe in Jesus and be saved (John 6:40). For this purpose, Jesus came to this earth (Mark 1:38), chose His disciples (Mark 3:14), and gave us the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). Therefore, believers should devote themselves to evangelism and do what pleases God. We must remember that our small acts of obedience and sharing can become a channel to save a soul.

Third is to fulfill God’s will by giving thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Complete faith is acknowledging God in all things (Proverbs 3:6). Consider Daniel: even knowing he would be thrown into the lions’ den, he gave thanks to God (Daniel 6:10). As a result, King Darius proclaimed Daniel and the Lord God he believed in to the whole world. Gratitude is not based on circumstances but is a choice of faith, and it turns our focus toward God.

Fourth is that we suffe

r for doing good (1 Peter 3:17). This is the purpose for which God has given us grace (Philippians 1:29). Just as no one is born without a mother’s labor pains, without the redemptive cross that Jesus Christ bore, we cannot receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Suffering is not in vain; in God, it will surely bear fruit.

Just as a grain of wheat must fall to the ground and die to produce many seeds (John 12:24), revival happens because there are people in every church who carry the cross of their mission. Through those who devote themselves in unseen places, the kingdom of God expands. What matters is that each of us practices these four things that Christians ought to do. Knowing and not doing is sin.

Let us all live lives led by a good purpose. For this, let us pray each early morning and, at times, fast as we move forward. Then the joy and peace that the Lord gives will continue to fill our hearts. At the end of that life, we will joyfully see the fruit that God has accomplished.
